Full Buckets

Full Buckets

I would be willing to bet that every person I know has a minimum of 6 five gallon buckets. I’m fairly sure I have at least 20. I would like you to visualize each one of your core needs being represented by an individual 5 gallon bucket. We are the by far the neediest of all of God’s creation. That would mean in this imagery the number of buckets would exceed even my abundant supply. These buckets would perhaps stretch out for hundreds of yards in each direction. What we desire as humans is for our buckets to be full. In other words, we want all our needs to be met at 100% fullness. If we can obtain this then we could live in contentment. One of the problems with having all these needs is we don’t have a clue in how to get them met. The drive to have these needs met propels us very often into looking in the wrong place.

John 4:14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

The woman at the well could not find contentment in human love filling her “buckets.” When we attempt to fill these need buckets with stale stagnant human love then they will constantly need to be replenished. Some of your reading this have buckets which are half full of Christ’s love and the other with human love but it doesn’t satisfy. Some people reach a point where their buckets are empty and willing to accept the left overs or table scraps of love that someone gives them. When we get past needy and become desperate then we are the most vulnerable to temptation. This is especially true regarding the fantasy world of sexual sin. It creates the illusion of being in control and always having your needs met.

We all are or have been the woman at the well. Looking for love in all the wrong places and coming up disappointed. Jesus offered the woman living water. His living water would never run dry or disappoint. That living water love would also overflow into the lives of other thirsting people. I have sought to fill my buckets from some very Godly people as well as very sinful people. There is but only one place to find contentment and his name is Jesus. Cease striving in filling your buckets with human love and taste and know that He is good.
