Recovered Territory
Psalm 51:14-15 14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, O God of my salvation, and my tongue will sing aloud of your righteousness. 15 O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise.
When I order something online, I always seek out the ones with free delivery. Many people ask God to deliver them from their difficult situations, relationships and health issues. But there is no free delivery available. David wanted to be delivered from the guilt of the blood he had shed. He looked forward to the One who could and would pay the delivery cost. Jesus can provide the same for you because the delivery costs have already been paid.
Most wars have been fought over territory. In many cases a territory will be captured and recaptured for centuries. This occurs so many times that no one can remember who the original owner was. David had lost the territory of his tongue, lips and mouth to the enemy of his soul. He had used them to manipulate, lie and cover up his sins. He needed that territory back but he was not the original owner. God is the designer, creator and owner of all creation. 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20 reminds us that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. If any part of this temple is invaded by the enemy then it must be recovered by the owner. As you walk through the recovery process there will be territory that will be recovered by the Holy Spirit. There will, however, be territory which cannot be redeemed. There could be lost relationships, income, jobs and standing that will not be restored. These areas should be added to the cost of your rebellion, grieved and surrendered to God. Have you used your tongue, lips and mouth to gaslight people? God can restore them because he is the owner but don’t expect the people you have hurt to instantly trust what comes out of your mouth. It will take repetition over time of repeated righteous use of this territory to rebuild human trust.
