Pooh turns 100!
Pooh turns 100!
Winnie the Pooh has just turned 100 years old. Boy, that all you can eat honey diet seems to work because he hasn’t aged one bit. If you know anything about the characters in the Winnie the Pooh books then you probably relate to at least one of them. We can be kind like the Pooh bear. We can be grumpy like Rabbit and we can be as depressed as Eeyore. We can be as fearful as Piglet and as impulsive as Tigger. Throughout it all Pooh Bear just seems content in his unending search for a small “smackeral” of honey. His biggest emotional outbreak when things go wrong is expressed in his low key utterance of “Oh, bother.” Even with his limited intellect, Pooh seems to always know the right thing to say. On one occasion Piglet asked Pooh, “We’ll be friends forever won’t we pooh?” Pooh replied, “Even longer.” I’m not crying, you’re crying.
As we grow older we tend to place our past best friends into stages of our lives. Such as, he was best friend growing up or she was my best friend in high school. Very few people can say they had one best friend their entire life. Pooh simple 2 word response touches the hearts of all humans. We desire and seek a lasting relationship which has no ending. A relationship which is not conditioned upon proximity or limited even by death. Numerous love songs have hit the top of the charts with the lyrics proclaiming an endless love for another person. The only endless and eternal best friend we can ever experience is found only in Jesus. Do you have the one and only best friend who will never leave nor forsake you? If you know Jesus is he your best friend or just a buddy who you hang out with on Sunday mornings? Jesus is still God and our Lord and savior but he is also our everlasting and approachable best friend.
John 15:15 No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
